Good luck to Mr. Stutzman in the future. I do hope that he realizes that BYU is in the same conference as San Francisco for basketball. :)

I hear what you're saying, but the same could be said of Skyline girls basketball, for one example. Coach Moser had those girls traveling all summer, playing spring ball, and on and on. Same goes for some golfers, baseball players, etc.

If a kid wants to focus on a single sport, God bless 'em. I preferred to play multiple sports, but that was me. If my own kid comes to me and says they want to play college ball in whatever sport, I will tell them what that means (immersion training) and let them decide. Players who can do it all are exceptionally rare — Nate Meikle, David Schroeder, Hollie Tyler, Sofia Hepworth.

It's also very rare to see a college volleyball scout (outside Western Wyoming or Treasure Valley) even at our state volleyball tournament - let alone a regular season game. One trip to a regional tournament in club ball and players are exposed to literally hundreds of collegiate scouts.

Is it a racket? Possibly. Or maybe its a way for focused, experienced volleyball coaches to get an advantage (or merely keep up) and get paid for their offseason work. If they are getting paid, its what the market will bear. But you can't argue with the results — more than 50 percent placement this season and counting.

Please don't forget to publish the other side of the story; the fact that every other female sport is being hurt by club volleyball. Club volleyball is like an infectious disease and girls with NO hope for playing college sports are pressured into giving up basketball, track and softball to play club volleyball because their coach assures them they can play college volleyball if they pay their $$$ and play. How is everyone going to feel when boys football and basketball coaches tell their players they have to travel year round and can't play multiple sports? For heaven's sake, let the poor girls have fun and enjoy high school. If they're good enough to play in college, they will be found during the high school season. Maybe you should ask the Shelley girl how club volleyball helped her win a trip to state in basketball.

The times/placements I did include for the athletes I interviewed for my story I received directly from the person running those events upon their conclusion. The complete meet results were inaccurate because the computer compiling them failed to include the schools for about half the athletes, therefore making the team standings incorrect.

The meet organizer sent the results to me, but said that they were inaccurate due to a computer error and fixing them was not possible before our deadline.
