Bandits hit six homers, move to 40-3; July 15 Legion roundup

At Boulder, Colo., the Idaho Falls Bandits had their own version of a home run derby Saturday in a 20-6, five-inning win on the fourth day of the Boulder National Invitational 19U Tournament.

Five players accounted for six home runs in the win over the Stars from Rapid City, South Dakota, one of which was a grand slam by Kolten Westergard. The win extends Idaho Falls’ streak to 16 and moves the Bandits into today’s tournament semifinals.

The Bandits, who led 5-1 through two innings, piled on six runs in the third inning and eight in the fifth inning. They outhit the Stars 21-10.

Westergard went 3 for 5 with two home runs (one grand slam), five RBIs and three runs scored, Hunter Leavitt went 3 for 3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored, Bridger Taylor went 3 for 5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, Andrew Gregersen went 3 for 5 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored and Jace Jones went 2 for 2 with a double, home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Bandits (40-3).

BURLEY 15, IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 12 (9 INNINGS): At Burley, the Tigers dropped a barnburner of a Single-A American Legion baseball game in nine innings.

Burley led by as much as 11-2 through three innings and 14-4 through five before Idaho Falls piled on seven runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to three. The Tigers came no closer, however, despite outhitting Burley 18-13.

Taggert Miller went 2 for 6 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Dillon Lennon went 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored and Nate Rose went 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers (17-18-1).
