Bandits sweep Rockies, June 9 baseball round up

At Melaleuca Field, the Idaho Falls Bandits swept the East Idaho Rockies Saturday evening, dominating game one before winning on a walk-off fly ball and error in game two.

In game one, the Bandits took an early 8-3 advantage after the first frame, eventually ending the game in six innings thanks to a six run, sixth frame.

The Bandits outhit the Rockies 12 to 8, as Bridger Taylor was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate. The Southern Virginia, and former Skyline, player hit a double and a triple and batted in four runs. Alex Cortez went 4 for 5, including a double.

For the Rockies, Jaden Schwab went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Trey Armstrong went 2 for 4, as McGwire Jephson hit a triple in three at-bats.

In a close game two, the Rockies overcame a 5-1 deficit by scoring four combined runs in the final two frames and eventually tying the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh. Coleby Hess hit the game tying RBI, scoring Curtis Drake after Bandits shortstop Alex Cortez committed an error.

Randon Hostert made up for the error, however, as the Bonneville rising senior hit a fly ball and reached first on an error from Rockies’ right fielder Davis Berry. Easton Taylor scored off the error, ending the night cap game.

McGwire Jephson went 2 for 3 at the plate for East Idaho. He hit one double. For the Bandits, Taylor went 2 for 4, with two doubles and an RBI. Cortez went 1 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs and a triple.

In game one, Blackfoot’s rally came up short, as Rhys Pope went the distance on the mound. He surrendered one earned run on five hits and one walk. He struck out seven batters and hit three batters with a pitch.

Peyton Whitaker went 2 for 3, as the Broncos committed four errors.

Blackfoot came back in game two, scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh to earn the win. Blackfoot registered 12 hits, as Mckay Chandler had an impressive day at the plate. Chandler hit a double and a home run in four at-bats, as his teammate Carlos Pimentel went 2 for 4 with two doubles.

In game one, a 16-7 win over Skyline in five innings, the Knights took advantage of seven Skyline errors and Ayson Webb’s solid day at the plate. Webb went a perfect 3 for 3 against Skyline, finishing with two RBIs and two doubles. Dallin Weatherly went 3 for 4 at the plate and batted in three runs.

For Skyline, Ryan Horvath went 2 for 2 at the plate, as a six-run, fifth inning was not enough for the Grizzlies.

Against Green Canyon, Hillcrest scored five combined runs in the final three frames before shutting the door on Green Canyon in the top of the seventh.

Carson Tubb went 2 for 2 in game two, batting in three runs. Caleb Harris pitched 5.2 innings, striking six out in 203 pitches, before Webb closed the game out.

In game three, the Knights beat usual Civil War rival, Bonneville, thanks to a six-run, fifth inning before closing the door on the Bees in the top of the seventh.

Despite the Bees scoring one run in the final frame to set up a rally, Nathan Adams eventually finished the back-and-forth affair. The two teams combined for 19 hits, as Kayson Isom went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Trent Reyes, Kai Howell and Willie Nelson finished with two hits, respectively, for the Bees.

Cabes Woolf went 3 for 3 with a double. Braxton Ball went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and two doubles. Jaxon Sorenson also hit a double in three at-bats Saturday.

Against Bonneville, the Bees scored eight runs in the top of the third before holding off Idaho Falls in the final frame. The Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Dylan Virgil went 2 for 4 with two doubles.

Before losing to Hillcrest in game three, Bonneville beat Pocatello by two runs and the Utah Trappers by five. The Bees also beat the Tigers to start the tournament.

Against Pocatello, Bonneville held off the Razorbacks in the final frame — shutting the door after Pocatello scored two runs. Up 9-0 midway through the fourth inning, Pocatello scored all their runs in the final four frames.

Kai Howell went 3 for 5 at the plate during the win. Willie Nelson went 1 for 4 with a home run in the top of the fourth.

Against the Trappers, the Bees took an early 9-0 lead and never conceded it. Dylan Forsgren went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a double. Bridger Talamantez went 2 for 4. Howell went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.
