Bialas powers Bandits to sweep; July 8 Legion roundup

At Melaleuca Field, Brandon Bialas had quite the day in the Idaho Falls Bandits’ Double-A American Legion baseball doubleheader sweep of the Rigby Rockies.

Bialas fell a triple short of the cycle in the 10-8 game one win, going 3 for 3 with a double, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored. The Bandits led 6-1 through four innings before Rigby scored four runs in the top of the fifth to make it a one-run game. The Rockies were led by Tanner Clayton, who went 1 for 1 with a grand slam.

Bialas threw a no-hitter in game two, giving up no runs while walking one and striking out 11 in the 10-0, five-inning win. He went 1 for 2 with three RBis and a run scored while Jace Jones went 1 for 2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored for the Bandits (31-3).

IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 14, IDAHO FALLS BEES 6; IDAHO FALLS BEES 16, IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 8: At Bonneville High School, the Bees and Tigers split a Single-A American Legion doubleheader.

The Tigers doubled up on the Bees in game one, recording twice as many hits and getting five extra base hits. The Tigers led 6-2 through four innings before scoring eight in the top of the sixth. Nate Rose went 3 for 5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored while Logan Ferguson went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Tigers. Dawson Fullmer went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Bees.

The Bees flipped the script in game two. They trailed 5-4 after one inning and 6-5 after two before moving ahead 7-6 after three. The teams combined for 27 hits in the slugfest, which ended with eight unanswered runs by the Bees. Andrew Olaveson had a big game, going 4 for 5 with a home run, six RBIs and three runs scored while Fullmer went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Bees (19-11), who play a doubleheader Tuesday at Upper Valley.

Jackson Madsen went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Tigers (13-15-1), who play a doubleheader Tuesday at Pocatello.
