Blackfoot extends win streak to four, sweeps Twin Falls; July 13 Legion roundup

At Blackfoot, the Broncos swept Twin Falls in a Double-A American Legion baseball doubleheader.

The Broncos used an eight-run third inning to break a 2-2 tie and set the tone for their 10-6 game one win. Blackfoot, which outhit Twin Falls 11-7, got hits from all but one batter in its lineup. Joe Maddox went 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored, Carter Cooper went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and a run scored and Rhys Pope went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored for Blackfoot.

The Broncos staved off Twin Falls to take game two 3-2. Payson Mills scored off a Chase Turner single for the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Cayden Cornell and Peyton Whitaker each went 2 for 3 with a double while Maddox went 1 for 3 with an RBI for Blackfoot (16-14-1).

IDAHO FALLS BANDITS 11, UTAH HORNS 1 (6 INNINGS); UTAH HORNS 10, IDAHO FALLS BANDITS 5: At Orem, the Idaho Falls Bandits began the UVU Camp with a split against the Utah Horns.

The Bandits took game one 11-1 in six innings. Idaho Falls outhit Utah 8-4 and led 7-1 through three innings. Jace Hanson went 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored, Bridger Taylor went 1 for 2 with three RBIs and a run scored and Alex Cortez went 1 for 2 with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Horns traded leads with the Bandits twice in game two before winning 10-5 thanks to six unanswered runs through the fifth and sixth innings. Andrew Gregersen went 1 for 2 with a double and three runs scored, Cannon Thompson went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Randon Hostert went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Bandits (27-4-2).

IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 7, MADISON BOBCATS 2; IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 12, MADISON BOBCATS 4: At Rexburg, the Idaho Falls Tigers extended their win streak to 20 games with Friday’s sweep of Madison in a Single-A American Legion baseball doubleheader.

The Tigers had four batters with extra base hits in game one, led by Braxton Ball (2 for 3 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run scored). Taggert Miller went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Jaxon Sorenson went 1 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored, Chris Dompier went 1 for 3 with a double and Cabes Woolf went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Carter Boice went 2 for 3 and Jace Leatham went 1 for 3 with an RBI for Madison.

The Bobcats again struck first in game two, but the Tigers tied the game at 4-4 after three innings and went on to outscore Madison 8-0 the rest of the way. Jaxon Sorenson went 3 for 4 with two triples, an RBI and four runs scored, Jaxon Cherry went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Ball went 1 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for Idaho Falls (27-6). Hillcrest trailed 7-4 through three innings before jumping ahead 10-7 through five for the game one win. Bracken Mason went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored, Dallin Weatherly went 1 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Caleb Harris went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Stryker Wood went 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Cole Krycek went 2 for 5 with two RBIs for Bingham County.

Luke Patterson had a big day for Hillcrest in the five-inning game two win, going 3 for 4 with two home runs, five RBIs and two runs scored. Matt Morrison went 2 for 2 with a double, a triple and a run scored and Ayson Webb went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Knights (25-8), who play Bonneville today.

Mike Gardner went 1 for 2 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored and Jayden Harris went 2 for 3 for Bingham County (12-8-1).
