Broncos split with Runnin Rebels after eight-inning game two win; July 5 Legion roundup

At Pocatello, the Blackfoot Broncos Double-A American Legion baseball team earned a split against the Pocatello Runnin Rebels after a marathon game two.

The Runnin Rebels edged the Broncos in a 9-8 game one win, scoring two runs in the sixth inning to complete the rally. They also edged the Broncos in hits, 14-13. Peyton Whitaker went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Emerson Stucki went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Blackfoot.

It was the Broncos who flipped the script in a 5-4, eight-inning game two win. Blackfoot and Pocatello ended seven innings knotted at 2-2 to prompt extras. Ethan Case and Rhys Pope hit an RBI single and double, respectively, in the top of the eighth to put Blackfoot up 5-2. The Runnin Rebels responded by scoring two runs of their own, but Emerson Stucki ended the game upon catching a fly ball off the bat of Trey Hough.

Pope went 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs while Stucki went 2 for 3 with two runs scored for the Broncos (12-12-1), who host Jerome in a doubleheader today.

IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 4, POST 64 DRAGONS 0; IDAHO FALLS TIGERS 10, POST 65 DRAGONS 3: At Idaho Falls, the Idaho Falls Tigers swept a Single-A American Legion baseball doubleheader against the Post 65 Dragons.

The Tigers shut out the Dragons 4-0 in the first game that featured a combined 10 hits between the teams. Chris Dompier and Nate Rose each went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored for I.F.

The Tigers used a six-run sixth inning to take a 10-3 win over the Dragons in game two. The Tigers outhit the Dragons 16-3 and had three batters who recorded extra base hits: Jaxon Sorenson (3 for 4, two doubles, a triple, two RBIs, two runs scored); Braxton Ball (2 for 4, two triples, an RBI and a run scored) and Paul Wilson (2 for 2, triple, an RBI and a run scored).
