I.F. baseball begins Arizona tournament with 3-2 win

At Glendale Ariz., the Idaho Falls High School baseball team opened the Pride Classic Tournament with a 3-2 win over Castle View, a team from Castle Rock, Colo.

The Tigers won the game despite being outhit 6-1.

Tanner Stohl and Andrew Gregersen made it 2-0 Idaho Falls in the bottom of the first off an error by Castle View’s catcher and a wild pitch. The lead stretched to 3-0 in the bottom of the third as Jace Jones scored off an error by Castle View’s first baseman.

The Tigers held the Sabercats to three hits through four innings. Castle View made the deficit 3-1 in the top of the fifth with two outs and cut it to 3-2 with one out in the top of the seventh. I.F. pitcher Derek Hurst struck out the next batter and left fielder Dillon Lenon caught a fly ball for the final out in the next at-bat.

Jones had the lone hit for I.F., going 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored. He pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits while walking one and striking out eight. Austin Staker and Derek Hurst pitched the final two innings, combining to allow one run on one hit while walking two and striking out one.

Idaho Falls (2-1) faces Pueblo East this morning and Pueblo County this afternoon.
