Madison, Hillcrest baseball split doubleheader

At Rexburg, Hillcrest and Madison split a 5A District 5-6 doubleheader.

Madison claimed the 1-0 game one win, ending a pitcher’s duel with a walkoff RBI single by Spencer Evans in the bottom of the ninth. The teams’ pitchers combined for 20 strikeouts and three walks. Evans went 1 for 2 with an RBI while Jaxson Hodges and Cyson Orr each went 1 for 4 for Madison. Jake Hawkes went 3 for 4 to lead Hillcrest.

Hillcrest turned a 2-0 deficit into an 8-2 game two win, taking the lead with a four-run fourth inning. Tyson Kress went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Michael Patterson went 1 for 2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Hillcrest while Devan Berry went 2 for 3 with a double and Hodges went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored for Madison.
