The Madison High School boys basketball team cracked the 5A ranks in this week’s state-wide media poll released Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats claimed the No. 5 spot this week — their first time making the top five this season — and jumped previously ranked Hillcrest.

Madison (10-2) is coming off a 73-56 win over Highland at Rexburg behind Spencer Hathaway’s 23 points. Hillcrest is coming off a 63-48 win over Rigby behind Jaxon Weatherly’s 21 points. The Knights received five votes in this week’s poll.

In 3A, Snake River remains locked in at No. 1 after garnering all 10 first-place votes. The Panthers are 10-0. Sugar-Salem and Shelley kept their spots from the previous poll at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

In 2A, media voters remain split on the top team in the state. Ririe (10-2) is still first place, but received four first-place votes as did No. 2 Bear Lake. St. Maries (No. 3) received one.

In 1A Division I and II, Challis and Butte County received votes, but not enough to crack the top-five.

The entire poll can be viewed below with local teams bolded.
