Boys basketball media poll: Snake River, Ririe among best in Idaho

Ririe was unanimously voted the best 2A boys basketball team in Idaho, according to the most recent state media poll released Tuesday evening.

Ririe (3-0) received all 10 first-place votes in the 2A rankings. Firth was among 2A teams receiving votes (four).

In 5A, Hillcrest cracked the top-five after starting its season 4-0 for the third time since 2013. The Knights may have to continue their winning ways, however, without all-conference guard Trey Johnson who suffered a concussion and a broken scaphoid wrist bone against Brighton (Utah) last week, according to an email sent to the Post Register.

Hillcrest coach Dave Austin confirmed the injury Tuesday night and said Johnson will have surgery Thursday. Austin expects Johnson to be out for at least eight weeks before being re-evaluated.

In 3A, Snake River and Sugar-Salem continue to hold two of the three top spots in the rankings. For the second week in a row, Snake River is ranked No. 1 while Sugar-Salem is No. 3 The Diggers and Panthers started their respective seasons 2-0.

In 1A, Challis cracked the top-5 with the Vikings starting their season at 2-0 for the second-straight season. Challis is tied for the No. 5 spot with Horseshoe Bend.

In 1A Division II, Butte County was among teams receiving votes
