Hillcrest remains undefeated, Dec. 5 boys basketball round up

At Hillcrest, the Hillcrest High School boys basketball team’s undefeated season continued by beating previously undefeated Skyline 53-37 behind Jaxon Weatherly’s 16 points. 

Hillcrest made seven 3-pointers in their fifth-straight win, including three from Derek Marlowe, to give the Knights their second 5-0 start in three seasons.

“The kids are really buying into our program and when they play team basketball, they are very fun to watch,” Hillcrest coach Dave Austin said.

The Knights led 47-27 after three quarters, as Jodus Bates had 12 points for the Grizzlies.

“They’re one of the better Hillcrest teams I’ve coached against,” Skyline coach Clint Cornish said. “They’re in midseason form right now.”

Hillcrest (5-0) will play Idaho Falls on Thursday while Skyline (2-1) will play Syracuse (Utah) on Friday.

BONNEVILLE 43, IDAHO FALLS 37: At Bonneville, fourth-quarter free throws helped Bonneville rally for a nonconference win over Idaho Falls.

The Bees trailed 20-14 at halftime and 31-26 after three quarters before outscoring the Tigers 17-6 in the fourth quarter behind a 10-of-10 free throw performance. Idaho Falls led by as much as eight to 10 points in the third quarter.

“We had a crew really play well in the fourth quarter and almost a whole different crew finished it off for us in the fourth quarter,” Bonneville coach John Tucker said. “We had some guys step up and they didn’t score a lot, but played solid D.”

Kalvin Bowen had 12 points for Idaho Falls all in the first half and left the game with an ankle injury in the third quarter, Tucker said. Idaho Falls (1-2) hosts Hillcrest on Thursday.

Dillon Sorensen had 13 points to lead Bonneville (2-3), which plays Saturday at Twin Falls.

The Bulldogs, who led 26-15 at halftime, poured in 20 points in the third quarter.

“South was playing us really well,” Ririe coach Eric Torgerson said. “South is really well coached. We finally got a little bit of energy when Ure got a dunk early in the fourth quarter.”

Reece Yancey had 12 points to lead South Fremont (0-2), which plays Saturday at Salmon.

Johnson and Ure had 15 points each for Ririe (4-0), which hosts West Side on Friday.
