Vikings top Panthers in OT thriller; Dec. 6 boys basketball roundup

At Terreton, Challis defeated West Jefferson 58-53 in overtime after Ross Sheppeard completed a full-court alley-oop with 3.8 seconds left in regulation.

The Vikings would then outscore the Panthers 9-4 in overtime to give Challis its third win on the season.

“I feel bad for the kids because they played and executed well,” West Jefferson coach Dave Hadley said. “I gotta do a better job coaching them up and preparing them. I own up to this one.”

West Jefferson trailed by nine at one point, as the loss pushed the Panthers to 0-3 on the year.

Braeden Larsen had 14 points for West Jefferson, which will play Friday at Teton. Parker May’s game-high 26 points led Challis (3-0), which will play Rockland on Thursday.

MACKAY 64, RICHFIELD 40: At Richfield, a 21-point first quarter set the tone for Mackay in a nonconference win over Richfield.

The Miners, who led 32-27 at halftime, held the Tigers to single-digit scoring in the final two quarters.

“We started out hot in the first few miutes of the game,” Mackay coach Kelvin Krosch said. “The last 11 mintues of the first half was a very sloppy, sloppy game for us. The second half, they came out and decided to play defense and started opening up the game.”

Caleb Green had 10 points for Mackay (3-1), which hosts Clark County on Friday.
