Sugar-Salem boys shut out Shelley

At Shelley, Sugar-Salem broke through in the second half for a 4-0 conference win.

Ace Christensen scored two goals and Bridger Esplin and Logan Tingey each scored once for the Diggers, who entered halftime knotted at 0-0 with the Russets.

“They have a really good goalkeeper who saved our shots on goal,” Sugar-Salem coach Oscar Bustos said. “The second half was another story. We shot closer to goal.”

Shelley coach Wes Stumbo said the Russets, who were without some players due to illness, held the Diggers scoreless for 54 minutes.

“It was 54 minutes of some of the best soccer I’ve seen in four years,” Stumbo said.

Sugar-Salem (5-0-0, 2-0-0) hosts Firth on Thursday while Shelley (2-4-1, 1-2-0) plays at South Fremont the same day.
