Sugar-Salem, Teton advance to 3A boys soccer district final

At Sugar City, the Sugar-Salem High School boys soccer team advanced to the 3A District 6 finals after beating South Fremont 6-0 Tuesday.

Bridger Esplin lead all scorers with three goals. Ace Christensen added two goals and Logan Tingey had a goal.

“In district games, it’s always harder to score at the beginning,” Sugar-Salem coach Oscar Bustos said. “They were defending well.”

No. 1 seeded Sugar-Salem (16-o-o, 9-o-o 3A) will play No. 2 seeded Teton on Thursday in the 3A District 6 title match at 4 p.m. at Shelley High School.

TETON 1, SHELLEY 0: At Teton, the No. 2 seeded Redskins beat the No. 3 seeded Russets 1-0 to advance to the 3A District 6 title match.

Teton will play No. 1 Sugar-Salem Thursday at Shelley. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.

“It was a good game,” Shelley coach Wes Stumbo said. “We didn’t take advantage of some good looks we had late.”

Stumbo said the Russets changed it 4-4-2 formation with about 10 minutes to press more. The Russets, however, could not draw despite having “multiple good looks,” Stumbo said.

Shelley finishes its season 5-7-2.
