High school round up: Challis’s season ends at Kibbie Dome

At Moscow, the 2017 season came to an end for the Challis High School football team with a 50-28 loss to Genesee in the 1A DI semifinals at the Kibbie Dome.

The Vikings trailed 32-0 at halftime to the top team in 1A DI and could never make up that deficit.

“They were as advertised,” Challis coach T.T. Cain said. “They have some horses. We knew what to expect and they are a well coached team.”

Cain said that the gameplan was to keep the number of big plays to a minimum, but an early 95-yard touchdown run and couple of long passes from Genesee put the Vikings in a big early hole.

Vikings quarterback Ross Sheppeard got his team on the board in the third quarter with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kade Bruno.

Sheppeard accounted for all four of the Vikings touchdowns in the game throwing for three and running for another.

“The kids played hard,” Cain said. “We had a great season and have accomplished a lot during the season.”

Pete Bradshaw caught four passes for 101 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings. Sheppeard threw for 175 yards on 13-of-27 passing.

Challis finishes the season 8-3 while Genesee takes on Prarie in the 1A DI championship game Friday night in Moscow.
