Locals represent well at statewide all-star game at NIC

Every local athlete who participated in the 15th annual Idaho Statewide All-Star Basketball games got playing time and four scored Saturday at North Idaho College.

The day began with the girls game, which the Region team won handily 87-41 over the Metro team after building a 44-19 halftime lead. Two District 6 athletes got in on the high scoring Region action, as Butte County’s Shay Lambson had six points and Sugar-Salem’s Savanah Crane had one point. Sandpoint’s Grace Kirscher, who was named the girls game MVP, had a game-high 23 points and was one of three double-digit scorers for the Region team while Highland’s Allie Thayne led Metro with eight points.

The Metro team won the boys game 144-112, shattering the previous statewide all-star game scoring record of 138 in the process. Twelve players finished the game with double-digit scoring, including Snake River’s Clancy Thomas (19 points) and Hillcrest’s Derek Marlowe (14) who both played for Metro. Mountain View’s Jalen Galloway, boys MVP, had a game-high 28 points for Metro while Lapwai’s Emmit Taylor III had 22 for Region.

Preston’s Brayden Parker won the slam dunk contest while Rocky Mountain’s Tyler O’Donnell, the boys 3-point champion, defeated girls 3-point champion Lydia Nieto of Bishop Kelly for the 3-point contest title.
