South Fremont girls basketball heads to state for the first time since 2006

At American Falls, the South Fremont High School girls basketball team defeated Filer 54-26 to clinch its first state tournament berth since 2006.

The Cougars won in a state play-in game Saturday, as they were led by Olivia LeCheminant’s 20 points.

Tied at 6-6 after the first, the Cougars’ offense exploded in the second and third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 48-20 after the first quarter. Paizlee Hobbs added 10 points in the win.

“The first quarter was slow, but we settled ourselves in,” South Fremont coach Ryan Erikson said. “They played hard, we executed well and our girls earned a trip to state.”

South Fremont (15-11) will play Parma (3A District 3) Thursday in Nampa.
