Bobcats down Knights in conference opener; Aug. 31 girls soccer roundup

At Rexburg, Madison scored five straight goals in a 5-1 5A District 5-6 opening win over Hillcrest to move to 4-0-1 overall.

Brynlee Christensen scored off an Erin Kennedy assist to put the Knights up 1-0 in the 20th minute and Madison evened the score with a goal in the final seconds of the first half. A Hillcrest own goal put Madison ahead early in the second half and the Bobcat goals came pouring in after that.

“It just shook us up a little bit,” Hillcrest coach Danielle Francis said. “We’re ready for that rematch.”

Hillcrest (2-3-0, 1-1-0 5A District 5-6) hosts Highland on Wednesday.

RIGBY 5, IDAHO FALLS 4: At Rigby, the Tigers fell to the Trojans in a tightly contested nonconference game.

Kourtnee Elison scored twice for Idaho Falls, which trailed 3-2 at halftime, while Kaila Smith and Riley Sanders had one each.

“They really showed what they could do and took all their opportunities,” Idaho Falls coach Erika Cortez said. “It was an excellent game.”

Idaho Falls (0-5-0, 0-2-0 4A District 5-6) hosts Preston on Wednesday.
