Johnson scores twice in 4-2 Grizz win; Sept. 6 girls soccer roundup

At the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex, the Grizzlies defeated Blackfoot 4-2  for a conference win.

Bailey Johnson scored twice, one in each half. Her first goal was off a Taylor Cole assist in the 12th minute and her second was an unassisted goal in the 60th. Brea Danklefsen scored in the 20th minute and Katie Nawrocki scored in the 70th minute off a Johnson assist.

Skyline (3-1-1, 2-1-0) plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest.

IDAHO FALLS 2, PRESTON 2: At the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex, the Tigers played to a 2-2 draw against Preston.

The Indians led 1-0 entering halftime. I.F.’s Alex Herrera converted a Kendra Billman assist to tie the game in the second half before Preston regained the lead. Natalie Jessmore scored off a Kourtnee Ellison assist to end the game and wrap up the draw.

“They’re a very good team,” Idaho Falls coach Erika Cortez said of Preston. “We played as a team. I feel like that was our missing piece. We have some great individual players, but we stuck together. They were out there to show what kind of team we are.”

Idaho Falls (0-5-1, 0-2-1) plays Monday at Century.

HIGHLAND 5, HILLCREST 2: At McCowin Park, Hillcrest fell to Highland in a conference game.

The Knights led 2-1 at halftime off goals from Hailey Cushing (Cienna Curtis assist) and Sidney Lance (penalty kick) before Highland scored four unanswered in the second half.

“We possess well in the beginning,” Hillcrest coach Danielle Francis said. “Towards the end of the second half, our girls are getting tired. We saw some things that need to be adjusted. Our ability to come back from being down, we’ve got to work on that.”

Hillcrest (2-4-0, 1-2-0 5A District 5-6) hosts Jerome on Friday.
