Sept. 2 girls soccer roundup: Shelley bests Snake River, 8-0

At Moreland, Abbey Crandall’s big day led the Shelley High School girls soccer team to an 8-0 nonconference win over Snake River.

Crandall scored two goals in the first half, which ended with a 4-0 Shelley lead, and three more in the second half.

“Our ball movement was very strong,” Shelley coach Jim Gregory said. “Our passing and control starting from the defense up through our transition was really good today, which was exciting to see.”

Eden Anderson scored one goal in each half and Daniela Quintero-Reyes scored in the first half.

Shelley (3-0) hosts Firth on Tuesday.

MARSH VALLEY 3, TETON 2: At Driggs, Marsh Valley held off Teton in a nonconference game.

Marsh Valley took a 2-0 lead at halftime off a penalty kick by Jaxyn Wheatley and a goal from 17 yards out by Korbie Bowman. Teton cut the deficit in half with a 48th minute goal by Abby Thomas off a Kira Wise assist, but the Eagles extended the lead to 3-1 when Bowman assisted Sadie Sutton. Teton’s Haley Janus made it a one-goal game when she scored off a Thomas assist in the 64th minute.

Teton coach Sandy Buckstaff said he liked how his team entered the second half, choosing to play hard instead of dwelling on the 2-0 deficit.

“Once they went up 3-1, we pulled one of our back line to put someone up top,” Buckstaff said. “We figured, ‘what the heck. Let’s see if we can get back in the game. It was a good game against a team that’s going to state.”

Teton (1-1-0) hosts South Fremont on Tuesday.

SOUTH FREMONT 9, ABERDEEN 4: At Aberdeen, South Fremont defeated Aberdeen for a nonconference win. No other details were available.

South Fremont plays Tuesday at Teton.
