On her birthday, Bonneville’s Holli Virgil committed her future to Utah State Eastern to play soccer.

Alongside friends, family and administration in Bonneville High School’s conference room, Virgil signed with the Price, Utah, school where she will walk on as a defender for the Golden Eagles. She will receive academic scholarships.

“I wanted to go to Utah State Eastern because my brother goes there,” Virgil said.

She said her brother, 2017 Bonneville graduate Dalton, was an influence in her decision to travel five hours south to the school formerly known as the College of Eastern Utah. Dalton is currently a member of the Golden Eagles’ baseball team.

She added that Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo., was in contact with her, but ultimately decided on Utah State Eastern due to tuition.

Virgil will join a squad that went 11-8-1 in 2017. She said she was attracted to the small town feel at Utah State Eastern. Its 2010 was 2,172.

“I like the idea that it’s a smaller school and I’m excited to meet new people,” Virgil said. “And put myself in a new environment.”

Virgil said most of her recruiting interest came through her club team, as showcases and tournaments helped her get recognized around the region.

“I’m just really excited to work hard and do my best and see where ever it takes me,” Virgil said.
