A guide to spring sports district tournaments

District tournaments for baseball have already started, while those in other sports begin Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here is a look at where things stand through Saturday and what tournaments are upcoming. The most current softball and baseball brackets are also posted on prpreps.com.

Baseball

Following Madison’s 9-3 win over Hillcrest in Saturday’s rubber match of the three-game elimination series, the 5A District 5-6 championship is set. Defending district champion Madison will play a doubleheader at No. 1 seed Bonneville at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday. If one team sweeps the doubleheader, the tournament ends and that team will be district champion and take the district’s No. 1 seed into the 5A state tournament while the losing team will take the No. 2 seed into state. If a split occurs, Bonneville and Madison will play an if-necessary game at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Rexburg.
Skyline, Pocatello, Blackfoot and Idaho Falls remain in the 4A District 5-6 tournament. No. 4 seeded Skyline plays a doubleheader at No. 1 seeded Pocatello on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. while No. 3 seeded Blackfoot plays a doubleheader the same day at No. 2 seeded Idaho Falls with a 4 p.m. first pitch at Melaleuca Field. If a split occurs in either doubleheader, the lower seeded team will host the higher seeded team at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The winners of Tuesday’s series advance to the 4A state tournament and play Friday at the highest remaining seed at 4 p.m. for the district championship.

The 3A District 6 tournament begins Monday in St. Anthony. Sugar-Salem won the tiebreaker coin toss over South Fremont to take the No. 1 seed into the tournament and will open against No. 4 seeded Teton at 2 p.m. while South Fremont will play No. 3 Shelley at 4 p.m. The winners of those games will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday for the district championship while the losers of Monday’s games play in a 2 p.m. elimination game on Tuesday. The second-place game to determine who advances to the play-in game will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The 2A District 6 tournament began Thursday at Tautphaus Park with No. 2 seeded Challis-Mackay defeating No. 3 seeded. West Jefferson 13-2 in five innings. Firth, the No. 1 seed, had a first round bye. Results of Thursday’s late game against Firth and Challis and Saturday’s elimination game were unknown as of Saturday evening. The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday at Melaleuca Field with the winner advancing to the 2A state tournament. If an upset occurs in the championship game, an if-necessary game will occur at 5 p.m. Monday at Melaleuca Field.

Softball

The 5A District 5-6 tournament begins Tuesday. Each game of the tournament is hosted by the higher seeded team. No. 5 seeded Bonneville plays at No. 1 Highland at 2 p.m. while No. 4 seeded Hillcrest plays at No. 3 seeded Madison. The Bonneville-Highland winner advances to a winner-to-state game scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday while the Hillcrest-Madison winner advances to play a 4 p.m. game Tuesday at No. 2 seeded Rigby. The district championship game takes place at 6 p.m. Thursday with the winner taking the District’s No. 1 seed to state and the loser taking the No. 2 seed.

The 4A District 5-6 tournament begins Tuesday at OK Ward Park in Pocatello with two 2 p.m. games: No. 4 seeded Blackfoot versus No. 5 seeded Preston and No. 3 seeded Idaho Falls versus No. 6 seeded Century. The Blackfoot-Preston winner will play at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday against No. 1 seeded Pocatello while the Idaho Falls-Century winner will play at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday against No. 2 seeded Skyline. The winners of the 3:45 p.m. games advance to a 2 p.m. winner-to-state game on Thursday while the losers of the 3:45 p.m. games play in 5:30 p.m. elimination games on Tuesday. The championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday with the winner taking the district’s No. 1 seed to state and the loser taking the No. 2 seed.

The 3A District 6 tournament begins Monday at St. Anthony. No. 1 seeded Teton will play No. 4 seeded Shelley at 2 p.m. while No. 2 seeded South Fremont will play No. 3 seeded Sugar-Salem at 4 p.m. The winners of those games advance to the championship game scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday while the losers of those games will play in a 2 p.m. elimination game Tuesday. The district champion automatically qualifies for state. The second place game at 4 p.m. Wednesday will determine who advances to the play-in game.

The 2A District 6 tournament begins Monday. The entire tournament will take place at Tautphaus Park and is set up the same way as the baseball tournament, with the tournament opening with No. 2 versus No. 3 at 3 p.m. Monday and the No. 1 seed getting a first-round bye. Seeds were unknown as of Saturday evening.

Golf

The 5A District 5-6 championships take place Monday at Teton Lakes while 4A District 5-6 takes place the same day at Pinecrest. Both venues will also host the 5A and 4A state championships one week from Monday.

The 3A District 6 championships are scheduled for Tuesday at Teton Lakes while the 2A District 6 championships take place Tuesday at Salmon Golf Course.

Tennis

The 5A District 5-6 championships are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Hillcrest, Bonneville at Tautphaus tennis courts. The 4A District 5-6 championships take place Wednesday and Friday in Pocatello.

Track and field

Rigby hosts the 5A District 5-6 championships on Wednesday and Thursday while the 4A District 5-6 championships are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at Ravsten Stadium. The 3A District 6 championships take place Thursday and Friday at Shelley while the 2A District 6 championships are scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Ashton. The 1A District 5-6 championships are a one-day meet this year scheduled for Wednesday in Arco.
