Bigler, Hirrlinger lead local golfers, May 15 state golf round up

At Lewiston Golf Course, Hillcrest’s Jacob Bigler and Madison’s Lincoln Hirrlinger led local golfers at the 5A boys state tournament.

Bigler finished tied for fourth, carding a two round score of 147 (73-74). Hirrlinger finished seventh with a two-round score of 149 (75-74).

Madison finished fifth with a two-round score of 647 (326-321). Rocky Mountain took first with a two-round score of 578.

In the girls’ tournament, Ally Adamson led Hillcrest to a seventh place finish. Adamson shot a two-round score of 168 (83-85) for Hillcrest, which carded a 792.

Madison’s Chloe Miller carded a 186 (93-93).

Eagle won the girls team title with a two-day total of 670 strokes. Highland senior Payton Fehringer carded a two-day total of 143 (68-75) to take medalist honors for the third consecutive year.

Class 4A

At Stone Ridge Golf Course in Blanchard, Skyline boys finished eighth and Skyline girls finished seventh. The Grizzlies were the only local school to qualify a full team for this year’s 4A tournament.

Skyline shot a two round score of 712 (368-344), as Blackfoot’s Matt Steidley carded a 74-78—152. Steidley finished sixth individually.

Twin Falls won the 4A state tournament with a two round score of 606 and Bishop Kelly’s Dick Roberts carded a 67-70—137 to take medalist honors.

In the girls’ bracket, Skyline carded a 464-448—912 to finish seventh. Idaho Falls’ London Hall finished sixth after carding a 87-86—173 during the two-day event. Twin Falls’s Tayllore Ward carded 72-74—146 to take medalist honors and lead the Bruins to a two-day total of 326-326—652 for the team title.

Class 3A

At Twin Lakes Golf Course in Rathdrum, Snake River finished fifth and Teton finished seventh in the 3A boys golf state tournament. On the girls side, Shelley placed sixth.

The Panthers ended with a two-day total of 728 strokes while the Redskins’ total was 837 strokes. Kellogg won the title with 653 strokes, 14 ahead of runner-up Fruitland which had the top two individuals. Fruitland’s Jake O’Neil was medalist, carding a 75-76—151 while teammate Jonas Bickenese was one stroke behind with a 72-80—152.

Snake River’s Noah Watt led local 3A boys with a two-day total of 90-82—172 to place ninth individually. Brandon Phillips led Teton, carding a 98-101—199.

Shelley ended with a two-day total of 920 for the girls tournament. The Russets were led by Nicole Nelson, who carded a 86-81—167 to place second by one stroke to medalist Kylie Crossland of Fruitland (85-81—166). Snake River’s Mia Harper also placed in the top 10, carding a 105-99—204 to finish tied for ninth.

Class 2A

At Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley, the Salmon boys and girls led local teams at the 2A golf state tournament.

Salmon placed fourth in the boys tournament with a two-day total of 704 strokes, 70 back of champion Cole Valley Christian. Salmon was led by Ammon Tolman, who carded a 78-85—163 to place 14th.

Watersprings, which placed 12th in the boys tournament, had the top local finisher in Uriah Yadon. Yadon carded a 84-77—161 to placed 13th.

On the girls side, Salmon placed sixth with a two-day total of 887 and had the top local finishers in Katherine Berasi and Karissa Barney. The teammates each carded 115-106—221 for 23rd and 24th place, respectively, one stroke ahead of teammate Ava Troy, who carded a 107-115—222.
