Two Knights in striking distance at 5A state golf; May 14 golf roundup

A pair of Hillcrest golfers are within striking distance of medaling after the first day of the 5A high school state golf championships at Lewiston Golf Course.

Ally Adamson shot a first-round 83 and sits in a tie for fourth after the opening round. Two-time defending state champion Payton Fehringer of Highland leads after a 69, while Emily Cadwell of Boise is second with an 80. Adamson is one of three players tied at 83.

On the boys side, Knights teammate Jacob Bigler fired an opening-round 73 and is six shots behind leader Sam Tidd of Rocky Mountain. Brayden Ogle of Coeur d’Alene and Carson Barry of Rocky Mountain are tied for second at 72.

No 5A team scores were available at Post Register deadline.

Class 4A

The Twin Falls boys and girls lead the way after the opening round at StoneRidge Golf Course in Blanchard. The Bruins girls shot a team total of 326 and lead Middleton by 57 shots, while the Bruins boys shot a 305 and lead Bishop Kelley by a shot and Minico by eight shots entering today’s final round.

In the race for girls medalist, Tayllore Ward of Twin Falls leads after a 72 with Makena Rauch of Moscow three shots back. For the boys, Minico’s Joey Gibson and Bishop Kelly’s Nic Roberts shot matching 67s to tie for the lead.

London Hall of Idaho Falls led the local girls with an 87 while Matt Steidley of Blackfoot topped the District 6 boys with a 74.

Class 3A

The Buhl girls and Fruitland boys lead the field after Day 1 at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Rathdrum

On the girls side, Buhl shot a 381 and leads Weiser by 10 shots. Shelley, led by an 86 from Nicole Nelson, is seventh with a 478

On the boys side, Fruitland shot a 322 and leads Kellogg by a shot. Snake River is fifth at 378 and Teton is seventh at 710. Noah Watt of Snake River led the local players with a 90.

Class 2A

Cole Valley is looking for a sweep after both the boys and girls teams took the lead after Day 1 at Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley.

The Cole Valley girls shot a 387 and lead Grace by 20 shots. Salmon, led by Kelsey Stansberry and Ava Troy with matching 107s, is sixth with a 44.

The Cole Valley boys shot a 316 and lead Grace by 17 shots. Salmon is fifth at 361 and Watersprings is 12th at 454.

Challis’ Lane Strand leads the local contingent in a tie for third with a 75, while Salmon’s Ammon Tolman shot a 78.
