I.F. sweeps Century, moves to 6-0 in 4A District 5-6; April 19 softball roundup

At Pocatello, the Idaho Falls High School softball swept a conference doubleheader over Century to move to 6-0 in 4A District 5-6 play.

The Tigers used a 10-run second inning to defeat the Diamondbacks 15-0 in five innings in game one and completed the sweep with a 16-0, five-inning win in game two. I.F. outhit Century 22-3 for the day.

“We were pretty solid both offensively and defensively in both games today, which helped us out a lot,” Idaho Falls coach Traci Wilkinson said.

Kennedy Robertson went 4 for 4 with three RBIs while Madi Burton went 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI in game one. Alex Billings took the win, allowing no runs on one hit while walking three and striking out seven in seven innings.

Robertson went 1 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Hannah Gardner went 2 for 3 with two doubles in game two. Kennedy Burton gave up no runs on two hits while walking none and striking out three for the Tigers (16-3), who host District 91 rival Skyline on Thursday at Tautphaus Park.

SKYLINE 11, MADISON 4: At Rexburg, the Grizzlies scored eight runs through the third and fourth innings and got a nonconference win over Madison.

The Bobcats outhit Skyline 8-6, but committed three errors.

Three Grizzlies had extra base hits. Elizabeth Peters went 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, Erin Jenkins went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored and starting pitcher Kyla Johnson went 1 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Johnson gave up four runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out 10 in 6.1 innings for Skyline (10-6), which hosts Bonneville on Tuesday.

Karly Hanosky went 1 for 3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored while Madison Jensen went 2 for 4 with a run scored for Madison (9-4).

SHELLEY 7, TETON 5: At Shelley, the Russets tied and won a conference game over South Fremont in the bottom of the seventh in thrilling fashion.

The teams traded leads throughout, with Teton leading 2-1 through three innings and Shelley leading 3-2 through six. The Redskins scored three runs to put them up 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, but three errors and a hit batter coupled with two hits from Shelley opened the door for the Russets. Shelley tied the game 5-5 when Shanaye McBride scored off an error and two batters later, Kaitlyn Ball hit the game-winning two-RBI triple.

“It was a good team effort,” first-year Shelley coach Travis Perez said. “Total team effort.”

Janie Nelson went 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored while Emily Fisher went 1 for 2 with a triple and three RBIs for Teton, which plays a doubleheader Monday at Idaho Falls.

Kaitlyn Ball went 1 for 4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scord while Ashleigh Ball went 1 for 4 with thre RBIs and a run scored for Shelley (4-7), which plays Wednesday at Sugar-Salem.
