Sugar sweeps 3A District 6 track

At Sugar City, the Sugar-Salem High School track team swept team titles at the 3A District 6 championships for the second year in a row.

The Diggers, who are also defending 3A boys and girls track state champions, dominated the boys side with a 112-58 victory margin over Shelley in the final team standings. The girls side was much closer, as the Diggers edged Shelley 108.5-104.5.

Sugar-Salem piled up points in distance events with Taylor Hill leading a 1-2 finish in the 800 and Kooper Williams leading a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,600 and 1-2 finish in the 3,200. Hill also teamed up with Jacob Christensen, Dylan Pope and Daniel Shirley to win the spritn medley relay. The quartet of Hadley Miller, Jesse Fogle, Pope, Christensen won the boys 4×200 while Ace Christensen won pole vault. Fogle also claimed the 300 hurdles, Christensen won the 200 and Miller won triple jump.

Shelley had individual champions in Ty Wright (high jump, long jump 110 hurdles), Mason Price (100) and in the 4×100 (Price, Cashe Kantack, Bryson Cummings, Parker Hanson). South Fremont’s Edwin Smith swept the throwing titles. Jeremiah Otto won the 400 for Teton and was a member of the winning 4×400 team which included Treven Warburton, Alex Linsenmann and Ben Janus.

The tight girls team race had Shelley and Sugar-Salem piling up points in distance events, hurdles, relays and field events. Celina Adams swept the throwing titles for Sugar while Jenna Johansen led a 1-2 finish in the 100 hurdles and Kassi Christensen won pole vault. Megan Galbraith won the 800 and was also a member of the winning 4×400 team that included Megan Pannell, Ashley Bingham and Bethany Schuthies.

Shelley’s Karlie Callahan won the 1,600 and 3,200 while Eden Anderson won the long jump and triple jump titles and contributed to wins in the 4×100 and 4×200 with Avery Downs, Ashlyn Hobbs and Amy White. Hobbs teamed up with Abby Downs, Madison Lempka and Jessica Williams to win the sprint medley relay and Lempka won high jump. White won the 200 and Avery Downs won 300 hurdles.

Teton’s Kira Wise won the 100 while South Fremont’s Carly Hikida and Abby Gould went 1-2 in the 100.

The top three individual placers and winning relay teams automatically advance to the 3A state track championships which begin Friday in Middleton. Statewide at-large bids will be determined today.
